Arsenal to bank £6m as Pablo Mari triggers permanent Monza transfer

Arsenal are set to bank £6million from Pablo Mari’s loan deal to Monza being made permanent.

Mari joined Monza on loan last summer and as part of the move there was a clause to make it permanent this year.

The centre-back would stay with the Italian club if they avoided relegation from Serie A and he made a certain number of appearances.

Mari has activated both of those clauses and, as a result, Arsenal will bank £6m from his move to Monza - with that figure including the initial loan fee.

Mari was Mikel Arteta’s first ever signing at the Emirates, joining Arsenal on loan from Flamengo in January 2020 before joining permanently that summer.

He featured regularly during Arteta’s first 18 months in charge, but slipped down the pecking order last season and was loaned to Udinese.

The 29-year-old attracted interest from several clubs last summer, but chose to join Monza as he wanted to return to Italy.
