Arsenal tipped to beat Chelsea to sign Brighton star Leandro Trossard amid Graham Potter reunion

Arsenal have been backed by former striker Kevin Campbell to complete a move for Brighton star Leandro Trossard before their London rivals Chelsea. The Belgium international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in a potential reunion with former boss Graham Potter.

However, it's the Gunners that have been backed to secure a deal as they potentially eye ways to strengthen their squad with the January transfer window on the horizon. It could allow them to sustain their current push at the top of the table, sitting in first after 11 games played.

Questions have since been asked as to whether there is enough strength in depth to sustain a title challenge, given the heavy nature of the fixture schedule. "We have the same [squad] that we had a month ago, two days ago, and the same as what we're going to have next week," Mikel Arteta said when asked about whether the depth is an issue after a draw against Southampton.

"I don't like to have any excuses. In the second half, we could have played much better, and we could have won much more comfortably than we did, and it's completely down to us. I think the team looked really fresh at the start. I put it more down to the way we played. We should have played better in the second half."

With the break for the World Cup just a few games away, the January transfer window is actually much closer than it may first appear. It could allow them to add in areas that are desperately needed, with Campbell telling Football Insider that a move for Trossard could work for Arsenal.

"I think Trossard would be a good signing," Campbell said on the 27-year-old. "I think he would thrive at Arsenal. He would be a squad player, one you could rotate in and out of the team, and there would be no drop-off. I think he is a really good player. He is very smart, has good movement, and he can finish. It would be a smart move, in my opinion."

While the winger has impressed, his most used position is on the left of the attack, somewhere held down by Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira. It may make any move unlikely unless Arteta has plans to use him in a different way within the tactical setup.
