Mohamed Elneny seems to be on the verge of signing a new Arsenal contract after news of his extension has been 'leaked.'
It seemed a foregone conclusion that the 29-year-old would leave the Emirates in the summer with his current deal expiring after being on the fringes of Mikel Arteta's side this season due to the arrivals of Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard. The Egyptian has only played in 11 Premier League games, but crucially he has started the last four, all ending in victories for the Gunners.
Elneny has shown his value to the north Londoners by stepping in for the injured Partey at the business end of the season. Wins against Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham and Leeds have put Arsenal in pole position to seal a top-four finish with three games left of the campaign.
There have been rumours that Elneny could be rewarded with a new deal, as a result, and that appears to be the case with news of an agreement leaked on social media.
Egyptian sports outlet FilGoal reports that a member of the Egypt national team staff published a tweet congratulating the midfielder on his new contract at the Emirates, before swiftly deleting it. A Reddit user then shared the post along with the caption: "A member of Egypt technical team congratulates El Neny on signing his new Arsenal deal."
Mikel Arteta was adamant Elneny is an important member of the squad when talking about the midfielder last month, suggesting he would be handed a new deal.
“I always said that for me, he’s one of the most important members of the squad," Arteta said at a press conference in April. “For what he does when you give him the chance to play and for the things when he doesn’t play.
"It’s a phenomenal person and then you have to judge the footballer as someone who probably doesn’t get the credit that he deserves.”

This isn't the first time that a piece of news regarding Arsenal's recruitment has been prematurely released into the public domain. The Emirates club inadvertently announced the signing of Matt Turner last month as they sent the keeper a wedding gift on his big day.
It's the worst kept secret that the Gunners have signed the New England Revolution keeper after agreeing a deal in January, but they have remained tight-lipped over an official announcement despite Turner himself, along with the MLS club, confirming the switch.
But Arteta's men gave the game away after the American posted an Instagram story from his wedding showing a bouquet of red and white flowers along with a card that came with it which reads: 'Congratulations on your wedding day! Best wishes, From everyone at Arsenal FC.'
