Arsenal star's injury return on horizon after missing key games

Arsenal and Scotland defender Kieran Tierney is on track to make his comeback from injury next month.

The 25-year-old, who hails from Muirhouse, sustained a knee injury during training for the Gunners in April and last played a competitive game on March 29, when he featured in Scotland's 2-2 draw with Austria in a friendly.

His absence has been sorely felt by club and country as Mikel Arteta's Arsenal missed out on a Champions League spot to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last month and Steve Clarke's Scotland suffered a devastating World Cup play-off semi-final defeat to Ukraine last week.

However, the Scottish Sun report Tierney is "on schedule" to be back on the training pitch at the end of this month.

The former Celtic's star's rehabilitation has gone according to plan and he will join his club-mates for their pre-season trip to Germany.

The Gunners are due to kick-off their friendly matches with a clash against FC Nurnberg at the Max-Morlock Stadium on July 8.

In an injury hit campaign last season, Tierney played 34 games for club and country, netting for Arsenal against Norwich in a 5-0 win in December, while grabbing his first goal for Scotland in a 1-1 friendly draw against Poland in March.
