Arsenal star Martin Odegaard made Liverpool confession before £30m transfer

Liverpool are set to meet Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, and one player has a connection to both clubs.

The 23-year-old completed a permanent move to Arsenal from Real Madrid last summer in a £30m deal after spending the second half of the previous season on loan at the Emirates Stadium.

Before joining the Gunners, Odegaard was linked with a move to Liverpool, but ultimately he chose the capital over Merseyside.

Going into Wednesday’s big game between Liverpool and Arsenal, Odegaard has five goals and four assists to his name in all competitions this term.

While Odegaard may be playing for Arsenal, he has stated in the past his affection for Liverpool, which is what may have led to the rumours linking him with a move to Anfield.

However, in an interview he gave during his time with Norwegian club Stromsgodset, while Odegaard admitted that Liverpool is his “dream club”, but in the end that did not affect his decision to move to Real Madrid or Arsenal.

"Liverpool have always been my dream club," Odegaard previously told German newspaper Sport Bild in 2014, as per the Evening Standard .

"But I will not let this affect my decision when I choose a new club.

"It's all about finding the team that is best for me and for my development.

"That is not necessarily Liverpool.

"I haven't really thought about my future yet.

"I will end the season here and then visit a number of clubs. I have not made a final decision yet, though.

"Of course, it's flattering when you hear that big clubs are after you, but I don't think about it too often."
