Arsenal stance on Eddie Nketiah contract amid huge step towards Champions League spot vs Leeds

A new contract for the manager, a new anthem for the supporters and a renewed sense that Champions League football will be coming to Emirates Stadium next season. Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leeds is not quite enough to secure Champions League football for next season, but a win against their north London rivals Tottenham next weekend certainly will be.

Eddie Nketiah has become a key player for the Gunners in recent weeks, taking over the mantle as Arsenal’s main striker and scoring the two key goals in the first half against Leeds. He has now scored more Premier League goals from open player this season than Lacazette. football.london understands that the club still remain optimistic that Nketiah will sign a new contract despite the former England Under-21 man rejecting several offers.

Arsenal have now won their last four Premier League games in a row, with wins over Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham and Leeds coming over the space of just a month. It’s an impressive return from Arteta’s side considering their struggles a month beforehand when they lost three consecutive games to Crystal Palace, Southampton and Brighton.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Arteta said:

“I’m delighted because obviously from both sides we have shown a real commitment of what we want to do together in this beautiful journey and the plans and the vision that we share, that's the reason why I'm doing it,” said Arteta.

“I think the club is doing it because we share the same beliefs, the same passion and the same level of trust about each other and how we're doing it and I'm really excited about what we can do together.”

A red card for ex-Arsenal academy graduate Luke Ayling certainly helped the Gunners’ cause, with Lacazette almost getting into an altercation with the opposition coaching staff after their remonstrations over the VAR overturned decision.

Three fixtures remain of the league season with the match against Tottenham set to be a huge decider next weekend. The supporters could be heard singing their new anthem ‘The Angel’ written by local artist Louis Dunford both before and after the game. As the atmosphere continues to grow with excitement and anticipation at what could be next, Arteta’s side continue to impress.

North London forever, indeed.
