Arsenal set William Saliba transfer value stance amid contract update and exit concerns

Arsenal defender William Saliba has impressed this season, quickly becoming a guaranteed starter in the side since returning from loan in the summer. The 21-year-old made his debut against Crystal Palace, three years after he signed for £30million from St. Etienne as a teenager.

His last campaign was his breakout with Olympique Marseille, where he helped guide them to a second-placed finish in the league and making a return to the Champions League. He also won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award - previously won by the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni.

While his first eight games back at the Emirates Stadium have been impressive, there have been concerns over his contract and a potential exit, with only two years remaining on his deal. However, football.london understands the club have the option of an extra year on the Frenchman's contract.

With his impressive performances, it remains to be seen if there will be some outside interest in making a move for Saliba in the transfer window. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has detailed the Gunners' transfer stance if that were to happen and if a bid was to be made.

He said on his YouTube channel: "Arsenal decided to invest serious money in this player who needed two years on loan to be ready for Arsenal. The process around Saliba has been incredible, and now, £30million is incredible to think about William Saliba. His value today is around €60/70/80m, but I'm not sure Arsenal would sell Saliba for 60(£52m) or 70million Euros (£60million)."

It remains to be seen if their resolve may be tested in the years to come as his contract dwindles and his performances continue at a high standard. However, with the option of an extra year, the Gunners are protected for longer than the current fears over his contract.
