Arsenal set to complete first summer transfer in next 10 days as Mikel Arteta begins overhaul

Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos within the next two weeks, with the transfer window set to swing open on June 10.

Mikel Arteta is plotting another overhaul of his Arsenal squad with European football returning to the Emirates next term in the form of the Europa League. Last summer saw £140 million spent on the likes of Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale and a similar outlay is expected this time around.

A number of big names have been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer including Gabriel Jesus and Serge Gnabry. Ahead of the summer, Arteta hinted that he is planning a similar window to that of a year ago.

“We are going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources,” he said at the end of last season. “And with our resources we have to play and do what we have to do in the best possible way. We don't know what the rest are going to have in terms of resources, which I'm assuming is going to be challenging because now it's not a top three or top four league. Now it is a top eight or 10 teams that are involved. That's why we have to find a way to do again what we did last summer.”

While a number of other big names continue to be linked with moves to the Emirates, Arsenal are closing in on a slightly lower key transfer from Brazil. Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos is set to be signed by the Gunners to add more depth to the front-line after a controversial battle for his signature.

Reports emerged in May that Wolves were opening legal proceedings against the 19-year-old, with the Premier League side claiming to have signed a pre-contract agreement with the youngster. But still, he is set to sign for Arsenal, with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte revealing that they are only letting him go now because of the risk of losing him for free. They also indicate the deal should be completed shortly after the window opens on June 10.
