Arsenal set to challenge Chelsea's resolve with transfer shopping list

Arsenal could look to move for Southampton's on loan star Armando Broja as they eye a striker this summer, according to reports.

The Gunners could face a potential crisis when it comes to their final third options at the end of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was allowed to leave the Emirates for nothing having been frozen out by Mikel Arteta.

Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are both out of contract come the summer and the expectations is that both could leave.

That would mean Arsenal are left lacking in firepower and may look to raid London neighbours Chelsea for reinforcements.

Broja has been allowed to head out on loan to the south coast this term.

It remains unclear whether he has a long-term future at Chelsea and the Gunners could look to pounce, reports football.london, with Mikel Arteta a big admirer.

Broja underlined his quality as he led the line effectively in Southampton's draw with Manchester United at the weekend.

Arsenal have several forwards on their radar with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin among them.

Broja has proved a big hit this term though, scoring eight times in just 15 starts for the Saints as he leads the line effectively.

Arsenal missed out on the signing of Dusan Vlahovic last month despite tracking him for much of the window.

The Serbian opted to stay in Italy and swapped Fiorentina for Juventus.

The Gunners could yet have the added draw of playing in the Champions League as they chase a top four spot.

Complications though could exist in negotiating with Chelsea, who may be loathed to sell to a rival.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel also spoke fondly of Broja earlier this year as he urged the forward to take advantage of his current opportunity.

"He is our player, he is doing good. But at the same time, it is only halfway through the season, so he needs to continue to improve and make his statement at Southampton," the German said back in January.

"We have a reason why they are our players, they have quality and a mentality and now they are out there on their own in different environments at different clubs. Armando is getting better and better.

"He is a very unique player with very unique strengths: speed, strong, robust and a goal scorer. Now is not the time to talk about summer.

"Now is the moment for him to stay calm and keep on improving."

Chelsea invested a club-record fee in frontman Romelu Lukaku at the start of the season.
