Arsenal set new transfer 'deadline' for next signing as Edu continues talks over £43m star

If you told me last month that Arsenal would have four new signings through the door, including Gabriel Jesus, just a few weeks into the window, I would have been pleasantly surprised. The fact that it's now reality is great, although I think it's safe to say that it has left many of us eagerly waiting for more and more to follow.

Jesus has joined Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos as new additions so far, with there being an expectation that business isn't finishing there. Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are believed to be on the lookout for a new defender and wide-forward, as well as a central midfielder.

Reports suggest that Raphinha, Youri Tielemans and Lisandro Martinez are all high up on the shopping list, with talks for the latter set to continue this week, according to The Athletic. Arsenal have already had offers knocked back for the Ajax man, who is said to be valued at around £43m.

It's no secret that there remain areas needing reinforcements, especially with the return of European football and the introduction of five substitutions. The question is, when can we expect the next signing to arrive?

If the last few weeks are anything to go by, it appears the club are keen to get things done as swiftly as possible, rather than leaving it late and risking potential deals. Of course, they may still need to wait on certain names depending on what happens with outgoings and negotiations, but there seems to be a determination to wrap things up early.

For Arteta, the acquisitions made so far will have no doubt pleased him to a certain extent. He has the opportunity to integrate his new star striker in early pre-season training, but I'm sure the big trip to the States is playing on his mind just a little bit.

It's there where Arsenal will play three games against Everton, Orlando City and then Chelsea as they continue preparations for the 2022/23 campaign. As well as the involvement in matches, the team will be staying at accommodation located near training facilities so that the players can work on fitness, tactics and more.

The squad is expected to fly out to America on July 13th, meaning Edu and his recruitment team have exactly one week left if there are to be more new faces on the plane.
