Arsenal's Mikel Arteta has already given Todd Boehly his opinion on Frank Lampard Chelsea return

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already told Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly why appointing Frank Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season is a good idea. The Gunners head coach has spoken highly about Lampard in the past and urged Blues fans to remember what a good job he did during his time at Stamford Bridge before he was sacked.

Lampard has had some good things to say about Arteta in return, labelling the Spaniard as an 'amazing coach'. The 44-year-old was not given the same amount of time and support as the Gunners manager with the north London outfit now challenging for their first Premier League title since 2004.

Lampard looks set to be in the opposition dugout when Arsenal face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium later this month, with Arteta boasting a strong record against the former Everton boss. The Blues are set to continue their search for a permanent replacement for the recently-sacked Graham Potter, with Lampard coming in to bridge the gap until the end of the current campaign.

Lampard had a similar approach at Chelsea to Arteta at Arsenal by entrusting younger players to perform and lead the club forward. The Gunners are now fighting Manchester City for the title, sitting eight points clear at the top of the table heading into the final nine games of the season - but things were much different when Lampard was in charge of the Blues a few years ago.

Arteta was keen for Chelsea supporters to remember Lampard’s work during his time as manager at Stamford Bridge before he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel. Arteta told Sky Sports back in May 2021: "I think he had the right platform, I think Frank did a lot of good things as well.

"I think he needs some credit. He put the team in the Champions League last year, he reached the FA Cup final. He did a lot of positive things."

Lampard now has the chance of redemption with Chelsea, especially in the Champions League with the 44-year-old set to be in charge for the quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. Arteta will hope that he can still continue his brilliant record against teams managed by Lampard as the Gunners chase the Premier League title.
