Arsenal's "magic moments" discussions taken on board as Martin Odegaard hails team-mate

Martin Odegaard has revealed the Arsenal squad have internal discussions where they detail the need for "magic moments" as they continue their Premier League title push.

The Gunners saw off Everton in midweek, putting four past the Toffees, to establish a five-point lead at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta's surprise package continue to defy their pre-season expectations but know they can ill-afford a slip-up with Manchester City on their heels.

Arsenal have had to be patient at times this season - and may well have to be again when they take on Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. Odegaard accepts that their opposition, especially those threatened by relegation, are going to make things hard for them, which furthers the need for moments of brilliance.

Bukayo Saka was able to open the scoring on Wednesday night against Everton - the last side to beat the north Londoners. The 21-year-old continues to highlight his individual quality amid continued talk of him as a Player of the Year contender and Odegaard hailed his timely contributions.

The captain said in his programme notes: "He's producing so much for the team right now - goals and assists - he's always dangerous so it was another great moment from him. In fact we talk a lot together about producing these 'magic moments' as a team. When the match is really tight or the opposition make things tough for you.

"Sometimes you need a magic moment to win the game or change it, and he is certainly someone who comes up with them. It's great to have him there for us. And we might need another magic moment today against Bournemouth, because like Everton they are fighting for every single point near the bottom of the table."

Saka has now scored 11 times in all competitions - one of his single season best, which came last term. The winger has been Arsenal's match winner on several occasions throughout the campaign.

Odegaard maintains that, despite their lead at the top, there has been no shift in focus. Arsenal could end a league title wait which dates back almost two decades with the season about to enter its final third.

"We are confident but focussed going into this game," he added. "If I felt at all that any of the players were starting to feel complacent, then of course I would say something. But I think the way the team is now, the mentality, and also what the coaches are giving us - the focus is there."
