Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus transfer decision vindicated as 'electric' star named standout performer

Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus and Manchester City's Erling Haaland have been the Premier League's standout players so far this season.

City's purchase of Haaland in the summer meant that it was high time for Jesus to leave Pep Guardiola's outfit and become the main man at a new club. The Brazilian consequently signed for Mikel Arteta's Gunners, where he has surprised even his biggest supporters by performing to an extremely high level.

Some doubted whether the £45million signing of Jesus would be enough to take Arsenal to another level, but with four goals and three assists so far, that decision has been vindicated. The north London outfit currently sit top of the tree with 18 points taken from a possible 21 and there's even been early whispers that they could be title challengers if they can manage to keep their squad fit.

Meanwhile, Haaland is the league's top scorer with an outrageous tally of 11 goals in seven games. The Norwegian hasn't needed any time to adapt to the pace of the English top flight, and if he continues in the same vein and manages to stay fit, he'll have the chance to beat Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's joint record of 34 goals in a single Premier League campaign.

Keeping the pair's form in mind, Carragher thinks that they've been the league's best performers. He told talkSPORT, via The Express: "I think it's been a brilliant start to the season, I've really enjoyed it. Obviously Haaland's the standout one, him and Jesus I think have been absolutely electric and been fantastic."

City, who remain unbeaten after their opening matches, trail Arsenal by one point ahead of next week's affairs. On a personal level though, the two most in-form players will want to kick-on and improve their tally's before the next international break.
