Folarin Balogun has confirmed his decision to switch his international allegiance to the USMNT on his Instagram page.
The Arsenal striker had been a regular in the England youth set-up and was due to feature for the Young Lions in the upcoming European Championships. But after months of speculation, FIFA approved the U.S Soccer Federations request to change his national eligibility from England.
FIFA rules permit players to change their eligibility before playing a competitive game at senior level. It comes after Balogun visited Orlando in March during the previous international break.

Following the news of FIFA's decision, Balogun took to social media to announce the news to his supporters. Alongside an edited video, the 21-year-old wrote: "LET'S MAKE HISTORY."
The video included Balogun's name on the USA jersey before ending with 'I'm coming home'. Arsenal teammate Matt Turner was one of the first to congratulate the striker, sending the USA flag emoji, an eagle emoji and red heart.
Balogun will now be in contention to make his international senior debut in next month's Nations League and Gold Cup fixtures. Anthony Hudson's men take on Mexico on June 15 in the Nations League last four before kick starting their Gold Cup campaign with the visit of Jamaica in Chicago.
“My decision to represent the United States came together with my family,” Balogun said. “In the end it became a no-brainer, but for sure it’s just something I wanted to do and it feels like I’m at home here. To represent the United States means a lot, more than people would know. I’m very proud and honored to have this opportunity, and I want to give everything I have to make our team successful.”
"There’s been a lot of build up, so I’ve obviously seen people saying that I should choose to represent the U.S. and it’s just something I’m really happy that I’ve decided to do.”
