Arsenal’s January transfers as 15 done deals announced on, before or after deadline day

Another transfer window has come and gone.

January 2022 was a busy month for Arsenal, with plenty of players leaving the club, either on loan or in a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, the Gunners saw a big-money swoop for Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic collapse, whilst they also missed out on sealing the signature of Arthur Melo on loan.

The club have taken a gamble by not signing any senior players and Arsenal fans are undoubtedly frustrated as Mikel Arteta's squad has also been thoroughly trimmed.

Nevertheless, the departures should put Arsenal in a good position to strengthen in the summer, something that they've already done by agreeing deals for American duo Matt Turner and Auston Trusty who will join-up with the squad later in the year - although the club have only officially announced the latter of those two.

Still, supporters are worried as 13 January sales were sanctioned and no-one has been brought into immediately improve the team at a pivotal time in the season.

With that in mind, football.london has rounded-up all the deals Arsenal completed in January (as officially announced by the club).

Harry Clarke to Hibernian (January 6)

The first to wave goodbye to the Emirates Stadium during the winter window was Hale End graduate Clarke.

The defender joined Scottish outfit Hibernian on an 18-month loan, with break clauses in the upcoming summer window and the next January window.

Ainsley Maitland Niles to Roma (January 8)

Clarke was very quickly joined by defensive colleague Ainsley-Maitland Niles.

After seeing opportunities in north London dwindle, he joined Italian side AS Roma on-loan until the end of the campaign after spending the second-half of last term with West Bromwich Albion.

Folarin Balogun to Middlesbrough (January 12)

The 20-year-old striker - who signed as a scholar in July 2017, having been at the club since he was 10 years old - penned a new long-term contract last season, shortly after scoring his first senior goals for the Gunners.

He's set to be part of Arteta's future plans, but will firstly strive to achieve promotion with Middlesbrough, who currently occupy sixth spot in the Championship.

Dejan Iliev released (January 17)

Never afforded a senior Arsenal appearance, Macedonian goalkeeper Iliev spent the first-half of the season with Slovakian outfit Orion Tip Sered.

That loan was cancelled, with the 26-year-old then being released from his Gunners’ contract.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy to Lincoln City (January 18)

After starring for the Arsenal under-23’s, the promising young defender has joined League One outfit Lincoln City on-loan until the end of the campaign for what is his first taste of senior football.

Sead Kolasinac to Marseille (January 18)

Signed on a free transfer from Schalke 04, the Bosnian has seen his Arsenal career end in the same way.

With just six months remaining on his deal at the Emirates Stadium, that contract was terminated by mutual consent, allowing Kolasinac to join Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.

He has penned a one-and-a-half-year deal at the Stade Velodrome and joins Arsenal loan pair William Saliba and Mateo Guendouzi.

Pablo Mari to Udinese (January 20)

Having not appeared in the Premier League for Arsenal since August, the Spanish centre-back has been allowed to depart the club for more regular football.

He has joined Serie A outfit Udinese on loan until the end of the current campaign.

Karl Hein to Reading (January 24)

The latest to depart the Emirates Stadium for a temporary stint away, the Estonian stopper has joined Championship outfit Reading on loan until the end of the campaign.

Should he earn a starting berth at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, it will be the first taste of senior football in England for the 19-year-old.

Tyreece John-Jules to Sheffield Wednesday (January 25)

Whilst Hein is linking up with a Championship outfit for the second-half of the campaign, young defender John Jules has already waved goodbye to one.

The youngster spent the first half of the season with Blackpool but has since dropped down a division to pen a loan deal with Sheffield Wednesday.

Ryan Alebiosu to Crewe Alexandra (January 28)

The 20-year-old defender joined the League One side for the rest of the season, having progressed this campaign and after training regularly with the first team.

Lino Sousa to Arsenal (January 28)

Sousa has joined up with the academy after completing a move from West Brom.

"It’s an amazing feeling,” he told Arsenal Media. “I’d like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity to be here and I’m just really excited to get going to be honest. I feel really good.

"The players have made me feel welcome and I’ve been with the under-18s and under-23s and they’re a really good bunch of lads!”

Somewhat of a shock move in the final days of the window, it was announced that former Southampton defender Chambers had drawn a line under his career at the Emirates Stadium.

The English centre-back was announced to have signed a deal with Arsenal's Premier League rivals Aston Villa - penning a three-and-a-half year deal in the process.

Nikolaj Moller to Fc Den Bosch (January 31)

Moller has joined Dutch Eerste Divisie side FC Den Bosch on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The 19-year-old forward returned earlier this month from a loan spell with German 3.Liga side FC Viktoria Koln, where he made 13 appearances, scoring three goals.

He's since moved on again as he looks to build his experience in the game.

Auston Trusty to Arsenal (January 31)

Defender Trusty has joined the club in a permanent transfer from Colorado Rapids but will remain with the MLS side on loan.

He has made 41 appearances for the Rapids, notably helping the club finish top of the Western Conference in the 2021 MLS regular season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona (February 1)

Although a deal was completed on deadline day, Aubameyang's exit wasn't officially announced until the morning after.

The Gunners' former captain, who found the net 92 times in an Arsenal shirt in just 163 appearances, wished to stay in Europe. Aubameyang is expected to move to Barcelona, but formalities still need to be completed between the club and La Liga.

Aubameyang had 18-months left on his deal at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners no longer have to pay his reported £350,000-per-week wages, meaning they're now estimated to be making a saving of around £25million over the next year-and-a-half.
