Arsenal's £84m transfer target makes honest admission on potential summer switch

Arsenal transfer target Moussa Diaby has claimed that he would like to make the switch to a Champions League club this summer. However, he also adds that it is possible that he stays at Bayer Leverkusen.

The forward has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as part of an overhaul to Mikel Arteta ’s attacking options. The Spaniard had troubles with a consistent goal scoring threat throughout the last campaign, with the transfer window giving him the opportunity to address that.

On the plans for recruitment over the summer, Arteta has said: "We are going to have certain resources, not unlimited resources, some resources. And with our resources we have to play and do what we have to do in the best possible way."

A number of players have been linked, including Diaby, who can play on either wing. The 22-year-old managed 25 goal contributions in 32 Bundesliga appearances last campaign, underlining a great individual term.

As a result, Leverkusen are thought to be wary of letting the Frenchman go, with the Mirror claiming an £84million price tag has been put on him. However, he has gone on to hint that he would be open to a move away.

He said, via Ronan Murphy: "I’d like to switch to a team that competes for the Champions League, plays in the big games," before going on to add: "It’s possible I will stay [at Bayer Leverkusen]."

While it may seem a blow to the Gunners in their reported pursuit given his desire for Champions League football, his deal with the German club runs until 2025. That may mean that, should he stay another season, the club could make a return to the Champions League and manage to secure him in the future.
