Liverpool have potentially blocked Arsenal’s chances of signing a striker on deadline day.
According to CBS Sports' James Benge, the Gunners were linked with a move for FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi, who is valued at £13.5 million per Transfermarkt.
Porto had recently sold another attacker in Luis Diaz to Liverpool, which is a potential reason why Arsenal were unable to agree on a deal for the Iranian forward.
The Gunners are set to finish deadline day without signing a striker, despite the shortages and lack of quality they have in the attacking positions, which could affect the club’s Champions League hopes.
Mikel Arteta's side is likely leaving the transfer window with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as the only senior and natural striker options.
Worryingly, they have only scored two goals combined from open play in the Premier League this season, which will certainly hamper the Gunners going into the final stretch of the campaign.
And with both of their contracts set to expire at the end of the season, they can only be considered as short-term options, which makes it imperative for Arsenal to sign a striker or two in the upcoming windows.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is closing in on a move to Barcelona which will see his time at Arsenal come to an end after four years, according to various reports.
Due to the striker problem at the club, it was important that Arsenal signed a new one in the January transfer window but they have failed to do so due to the inability to secure any of the club’s top targets.
Edu was pushing hard to sign Dusan Vlahovic, football.london understood, but the club could not persuade the Serbian striker to join despite him being the number one target.
This is why the club had been linked with a move for Taremi but with Porto already selling Diaz to Liverpool just a couple of days earlier, a late deadline day move was always going to prove tricky.
