Arsenal 'revisit talks' for 'new Paul Pogba' as $76m transfer to unlock Gabriel Jesus 'close'

Welcome to the football.london transfer briefing. To help you keep on top of all things Arsenal going on in the market we've got the latest noises coming from social media, journalists and so-called ITKs, rounding up what's what in the world of the Gunners.

Arsenal to revisit Moises Caicedo

Although Declan Rice is the main transfer priority for Arsenal this summer, as football.london understands, they could yet go back in for Moises Caicedo later on in the summer according to reports.

Transfer journalist Dean Jones says that there is a real possibility that the Gunners revisit talks with Brighton for Ecuador midfielder after making two bids of around £70million ($89.7m) for him in January.

football.london says: "Arsenal were unlikely to just give up on Caicedo, especially after pushing so hard in the winter. Rice is clearly their biggest hope for the window but with the uncertainty around him they will need other options. Brighton are hard to negotiate with which won't help matters, but to get Caicedo would add a new dimension to the squad.

"He's a very different player to Rice with Ecuadorian football history expert Enrico Castro-Montes saying: 'I think that off the ball, he is indeed somewhat reminiscent of Kante, but on the ball, he resembles Paul Pogba with his flair and his technique.

1That’s also how they describe him in Ecuador: a cross between Kanté and Pogba.' It's high praise but at 21 Caicedo is also a highly skilled player and Arsenal are looking to stamp their authority on this part of the market. He could be a true gamechanger, not to mention if they found a way to sign him and Rice. Wow."

Havertz 'close'

Arsenal are making quick progress in their attempts to sign Chelsea forward Kai Havertz this summer. Angelo Mangiante says that the Gunners are 'very close' to adding the German to their squad as they seek to bring in depth and Premier League experience.

Havertz is a genuine option for the north Londoners, football.london understands, but there is still quite a gap in valuation between the two parties with Chelsea hoping to recoup as much as £70million ($89.7m) for the 24-year-old.

football.london says: "This is not a deal that many saw coming. Havertz has had a struggle of a time with Chelsea but, as with many, there are mitigating factors as to why players fail at Stamford Bridge. Arteta has managed to revive Martin Odegaard's game after criticism and disappointment, failure to live up to early hype, if he can do the same with Havertz then it could be a brilliant signing.

"With his time in Germany and for his country too, Havertz has shown the ability to contribute across the frontline and would fit well into a flexible Arsenal attack. With the goalscoring of Gabriel Jesus becoming an issue towards the end of the season, Arsenal could do with some pressure being taken off their Brazilian. For the right price, Havertz might be the perfect addition."
