Arsenal are set to open contract talks with Jorginho.
The midfielder is in the final few months of his current deal, although there is the option to extend by a further year.
Jorginho has been in fine form recently and shone as Arsenal beat Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday night.
The Gunners are now set to open talks with the Italian over fresh terms as opposed to just taking up the option to extend his current contract.
Jorginho is a key player in the Arsenal squad and the 32-year-old brings valuable experience to a young group - especially during the run-in.
“I think we need to focus, as I always said, game by game,” Jorginho said earlier this month.
“The Liverpool game is gone now and we need to focus on West Ham and the next one after that and the next one after that.
“If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus on each game and give everything we can in every single game.”
Jorginho has predominately played at the base of midfield for Arsenal, but he has also played further forward as a No8.
“He’s a top player, especially when the opponents have certain behaviours or certain set-up,” said Arteta.
“The way I can imagine the game, he is going to have a big impact, but I think you have to do it at this level and when he’s not playing consistently, credit to him because he was magnificent today, again.”
