The Premier League have explained the decision to show Myles Lewis-Skelly a straight red card in Arsenal’s match against Wolves.
The left-back was dismissed before half-time at Molineux in controversial fashion, after stopping a Wolves counter.
As the hosts looked to break after clearing an Arsenal corner, Lewis-Skelly came across and tripped Matt Doherty to stop the attack.
Referee Michael Oliver surprisingly showed a red card to the 18-year-old and that decision was then confirmed after a VAR check.
The Premier League Match Centre account on X posted: “The referee’s call of a red card for Lewis-Skelly was checked and confirmed by VAR, who deemed his challenge to have been serious foul play.”
Speaking after the match, Mikel Arteta said: "It is that clear and I will leave it to you guys.
"I am absolutely fuming. But I will leave it with you, it is that obvious that I don't think my words are going to help.”
On whether Arsenal will appeal the decision, the Arsenal boss added: "That's for the club to decide what is the best decision. It's that obvious that maybe we don't even need to [put in an appeal].
"He's really happy now that the team won and found a way to win it. He is very worried about what's coming next because he's strongly feeling that there was nothing to do with the action."
Lewis-Skelly’s dismissal was the fourth red card Arsenal have been shown in the Premier League this season.
Declan Rice was sent off against Brighton in the early weeks of the campaign, in another controversial decision, before Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow card against Manchester City for kicking the ball away.
William Saliba was shown a straight red card in the defeat to Bournemouth for stopping a goalscoring opportunity.
