Arsenal player ratings vs West Ham as Saka misses penalty, Partey poor, but Odegaard impresses

Aaron Ramsdale: Couldn't do an awful lot about the first goal that West Ham scored but would have wanted to do better for the second. Some decent distribution from the back at times. 6.

Ben White: A lovely attacking run to fashion the assist for Gabriel Jesus' goal early on. Wasn't particularly at fault for either of the goals, but didn't do Holding many favours when Antonio was running directly at the back line. 6.

Rob Holding: Struggled with Michail Antonio's direct running at times and didn't enjoy being dragged out into the wide areas. Not effective when distributing the ball. Probably his toughest game during his run so far. 5.

Gabriel: Poor decision to dive in for the West Ham penalty although the contact was very minimal in this instance. Generally pretty good aside from that particularly when exposed one-vs-one. 7.

Kieran Tierney: Some very nice delivery in attacking areas that probably should have resulted in a goal if the Arsenal forwards' movement had been better. Good defensively. 6.

Thomas Partey: Started the game well with a few tricks and flicks in the middle but totally switched off to allow West Ham a route back in. Poor in possession after that and unsurprisingly hooked. 5.

Granit Xhaka: Relatively anonymous in the match. A few menacing runs as we've come to expect, but didn't really lead anywhere. Not a great day, but not a particularly bad one for him either. 6.

Martin Odegaard: Simply superb in the early exchanges of the match. A sublimely taken goal and some playground skills when Arsenal looked like they would run riot. Not as influential second period though. 7.

Bukayo Saka: He is human after all. A tough day at the office for Buakyo Saka. It wasn't just the penalty miss that appeared to shake his confidence, but he had been quiet long before that. 5.

Gabriel Jesus: A nicely taken goal to make it four in three early on. His movement caused West Ham no end of trouble. As the game progressed his influence waned though, and his gamesmanship seemed to rile up the home fans. 7.

Gabriel Martinelli: Sublime down the left. An outstanding assist for Odegaard's goal and was one of the few players who continued to cause a threat when the tide of the game turned. Strange decision to take him off at the end. 7.

SUBSTITUTES -

Leandro Trossard: His movement caused West Ham problems that Jesus didn't. Might have been nice to see the pair together. Did offer threat after coming on. 7.

Jorginho: Less wasteful in possession than Partey after coming on. Didn't manage to turn the tide of the match like he would have hoped though. 6.

Fabio Vieira: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.

Reiss Nelson: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.

Eddie Nketiah: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
