Aaron Ramsdale: Could he have done more to stop Goncalves' effort from the halfway line? Maybe, but who was realistically expecting him to take that on? A superb save to keep out Edwards and keep the scores at 1-1 redeemed himself if that was necessary. Might have done better for a few of the penalties. 6.
Takehiro Tomiyasu: Lasted under 10 minutes before coming off injured. Arsenal will hope the problem isn't too serious. n/a.
William Saliba: Arsenal will really hope the first half injury to Saliba isn't serious. The Frenchman has been imperious so far this season and losing him for a while would be a massive blow to the title hopes. n/a.
Gabriel: Defended well for the most part as we've come to expect from the Brazilian. Showed his leadership qualities when Arsenal were up against Sporting pressure as well. 7.

Oleksandr Zinchekno: The Ukrainian's passing was not at his usual high standards with a few cheap giveaways. Penned back to the actual left back spot by Edwards at times. Good leadership as ever though. 5.
Jorginho: A superb pass to play in Gabriel Martinelli in the build up to Granit Xhaka's goal. Caught out a little in the build-up to the Sporting goal by diving in as the last man in midfield. Did that a few times. 6.
Granit Xhaka: It felt as if the Swiss was getting back to his attacking best against Fulham and that only continued here. So much more influential in the attacking third than he has been and rewarded with a goal for his adventurous positioning. 7.
Fabio Vieira: Started brightly and looked extra motivated by the boos from the Sporting fans. Really faded in influence as the game went on however. 6.
Reiss Nelson: Some decent moments one-vs-one when dribbling and almost a superb assist for Gabriel Jesus early on. Not a consistent enough threat though. 6.
Gabriel Jesus: A really promising return to the starting XI for the Brazilian who played with his usual intensity and looked desperate to score. Might have had longer if not for the lack of subs created by injuries. 7.
Gabriel Martinelli: In the wars on a few occasions after some meaty Sporting challenges. Nearly scored in the build-up to Xhaka's goal, but really faded in the second half. A missed penalty hopefully won't lay too heavy on him. 5.
SUBSTITUTES -
Ben White: Wouldn't have expected to play so long, but did OK under the circumstances. Not his best most influential display with a couple of poor giveaways in the second half. 6.
Rob Holding: Might have been miffed not to be starting but did well after coming on early. A few typical decent blocks and one or two nice passes as well. A few stray moments on the ball as well though. 6.
Leandro Trossard: Not as influential as he was against Fulham at the weekend as Arsenal struggled to gain control of possession. As Arsenal gained more control in added time his impact grew and he was unlucky not to score. 7.
Thomas Partey: Really raised the tempo in the midfield. During extra time in particular his impact was huge as Arsenal dominated the ball. 7.
Bukayo Saka: Some nice direct runs that helped Arsenal looked more of an attacking threat in flashes, but is impact wasn't consistent throughout his cameo. 6.
Martin Odegaard: Raised the volume of the home supporters after coming on and tried to give his team the boost needed late on to win the game. One superb delivery nearly helped Gabriel win the game. 6.
