Aaron Ramsdale
Despite making some good saves in the first half, Aaron Ramsdale undermined his performance by failing to punch a Cody Gakpo corner which Luuk de Jong took gratefully as a gift to give PSV their second. His distribution was also far more panicked than normal and like against Southampton he went long. 3.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Strong defensively in the first half when needing to deal with Cody Gakpo on the Arsenal right, the Dutch international began to get the better of the Japanese international. Most importantly though he offered next to nothing going forwards and the substitute Saka looked under-supported. 4.
Rob Holding
A performance which showed exactly why Arsenal have levelled up their central defensive options. Whilst Holding is great to come on and defend the box, on the quick transition he is as weak as his distribution and for the Joey Veerman goal his positioning for very poor. Subbed rightly soon after conceding the second. 3.

William Saliba
A run of games for the Frenchman where he has again failed to stand out for the good reasons that he was at the beginning of the season. He looked awkward in moments and was powerless to stop both of PSV’s goals. 4.
Kieran Tierney
The best of the Arsenal defenders on the night but not by much and mainly due to what he offered going forwards. However, with potentially Nottingham Forest in mind this weekend he was taken off as the Gunners began to look particularly weak defensively on the counter. 5.
Sambi Lokonga
His performance is summed up by the fact he was replaced early in the second half by Thomas Partey. A player asking for more opportunities needs to take them when they come and despite some good early moments on the ball, his lack of influence on the game was telling and was rightly replaced. 4.
Granit Xhaka
In a season where Granit Xhaka has stood out significantly for what he brought to the team this was his most underwhelming performance. His passing was good but there was not the same verve which has been in the majority of his performances this season and it was evident that his side was lacking that. He will miss the Zurich match through suspension, and it is probably for the best. 5.
Martin Odegaard
Substituted not due to a poor game - Odegaard produced some great passes it kept the play ticking. Another shot of his though found only the goalkeeper and with Sunday in mind he made way instead of Fabio Vieira for Bukayo Saka. 5.
Fabio Vieira
Starting the game on the right-hand side the Portuguese international offered what he could which was some smart passes and close control. What he didn’t offer was everything that the Gunners have seen from Bukayo Saka all season.
No pace, no driving runs and not particularly a great outlet either. Moving more centrally after Saka’s introduction he looked more comfortable but remained unable to have an impact on the game where Odegaard was in the first half. 4.
Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli endured a terrible first half in particular. Wasteful on the ball, poor corner-taking, and crossing preceded the biggest miss of the first half for Arsenal as the Brazilian blazed over a volley under no pressure.
This continued painfully into the second half with the Brazilian losing his head on some occasions as he struggled to impact the game as he would like. 2.
Eddie Nketiah
Offered next to nothing in the forward line. Any chance that well his way failed to challenge the goalkeeper and his movement was relatively poor also. Missed a late chance to get the Gunners back in the game with a tame effort. These are the games which make you worry if something was to happen to Gabriel Jesus that would see him out of the side for the long term. 2.
Substitutes:
Thomas Partey
Despite certainly adding more quality than the side had with Sambi Lokonga in the team, he was ultimately unable to make enough of a difference to change the game. 5.
Bukayo Saka
Looked to be Arsenal’s most likely avenue for a goal after coming on, a significant change tactically having followed the failed experiment of Fabio Vieira on the right. 5.
Gabriel Jesus
Looked spritely in moments as Jesus does but ultimately had little-to-no impact on Arsenal’s hopes of getting back into the game. 5.
Ben White
Came on to sort out the chaos after initially switching to a back three but had little impact on the game. 5.
Gabriel Magalhaes
Came on to sort out the chaos after initially switching to a back three but had little impact on the game. 5.
