Arsenal player ratings vs Newcastle as Martin Odegaard excellent and Granit Xhaka superb

Aaron Ramsdale: The England 'keeper seems to be in a save-of-the-season battle against himself. Each week he manages to one-up the ones before. Superb stops to keep it at 1-0. 8.

Ben White: Had his work cut out against the sublime Alexander Isak, but coped pretty well. Decent going forward. A solid game for the right back. 7.

Jakub Kiwior: Another really assured display from the Polish international who had far more to do than against Chelsea. Looks to have brought confidence back into the Arsenal backline. 8.

Gabriel: Another impressive display at the heart of the defence from the Brazilian who was switched on throughout. Stuck up for his teammates when things got feisty. 8.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: Another classic Alex Zinchenko game. Offered Arsenal a lot on the ball, but defensively left them exposed at times. Wasn't necessarily surprising to see him taken off on the hour mark. 6.

Jorginho: A ropey start to the game where he was caught out, but recovered to be impressive at the base of the midfield. His experience was key in the cauldronous early exchanges of the game and helped Arsenal with game management after recent games were they have failed to do so. 8.

Granit Xhaka: A superb all-round midfield display from the Swiss international. Two blocks to prevent almost certain Newcastle goals and then some passes in the final third to split the Newcastle defence wide open. Great leadership and fight too when things got feisty. 8.

Martin Odegaard: Another goal for the Norwegian who now has the most non-penalty goals by a midfielder in Premier League history. He was excellent all round aside from that though. Could have scored more, worked supremely hard and had the final ball to match. A top-notch display. 9.

Bukayo Saka: Suffered from the lack of right footer in the backline which meant his influence was limited. Still though when he got the ball he was effective with it. 7.

Gabriel Jesus: Stood up to the physical test that Newcastle looked to provide throughout. Good hold up play that caused the home side's backline plenty of problems. 7.

Gabriel Martinelli: Had been slightly quiet before he brought about the own goal. Had hit the bar in fairness. Still decisive in the match. 7.

SUBSTITUTES -

Kieran Tierney: Superb defensively after coming on. Brought back a level of defensive control that Arsenal were lacking before his introduction. 8.

Leandro Trossard: Came on too late to impact the game. n/a.

Thomas Partey: Came on too late to impact the game. n/a.

Reiss Nelson: Came on too late to impact the game. n/a.

Eddie Nketiah: Came on too late to impact the game. n/a.
