Arsenal player ratings vs Liverpool: Bukayo Saka second best with Ben White skinned and Gabriel undone

Arsenal’s Carabao Cup run came to an end as Diogo Jota’s double sent Liverpool through to the Wembley final with a 2-0 victory in this semi-final second leg.

Here’s how Mikel Arteta’s side rated at the Emirates...

Aaron Ramsdale 5

Has been a revelation but this was not his finest night. Over-commited and left wrong-footed for the opening goal, while usually excellent distribution was shaky.

Kieran Tierney 6

Generally an excellent foil for Martinelli down the left but caught ball-watching when Gordon should have doubled lead.

Ben White 6

Immense in the first leg and solid enough again here, though skinned by Jota in build-up for Gordon chance.

Gabriel 5

Sucked in and undone by Firmino’s wonderful flick in build-up to the goal and a bit slow out when just about playing Jota onside for the clincher. Both were minor errors, ruthlessly punished.

Takehiro Tomiyasu 4

Looked incredibly rusty on his return. Passing wayward, lacking usual aggression in the air and beaten too easily by Jota for the opener.

Sambi Lokonga 6

Nomially the most defensive of an attacking Arsenal midfield, but his best moments came going forward, too, most notably a stunning clip in behind from which Lacazette should have scored.

Martin Odegaard 7

Such a silky operator. Used the ball with great intelligence and was not inhibited but deeper role.

Bukayo Saka 6

Came of second best in a fierce battle with Robertson on a quiet night by his standards.

Emile Smith Rowe 6

Energy improved Arsenal’s press on his return but found space between the lines hard to come by up against the outstanding Fabinho. Lazy pass wasted rare chance to expose Liverpool on the break.

Gabriel Martinelli 7

Gave Alexander-Arnold all sorts of problems in the first-half. Found life harder as Liverpool doubled up after the break but easily Arsenal’s biggest threat.

Alexandre Lacazette 6

Hit the crossbar with delicate early free-kick but wasted superb opening from Lokonga’s pass.

Substitutes

Eddie Nketiah (Lacazette 74’)

Sent on to try to find a leveller but had hardly had atouch when Jota doubled lead.

Thomas Partey (Smith Rowe 74’) 3

Coming off a plane from Cameroon an lunchtime to help the cause didn’t sound like the wisest of decisions and so it proved with red card.

Unused: Hein, Holding, Tavares, Patino, Alebiosu, Biereth, Salah-Eddine
