Arsenal player ratings vs Liverpool as Gabriel Martinelli is outstanding and Bukayo Saka stars

Aaron Ramsdale: Could do little for either goal and made a sublime save to keep Arsenal in front early on when Saliba nearly turned towards his own net. 7.

Ben White: Got forward really well to support the attack and was defensively solid throughout. The fact that Liverpool targeted Arsenal's left more often spoke volumes. 8.

William Saliba: Had his hands full with the physicality of Nunez. Did well to be aggressive and front footed for the most part, but might have done better with his body position for Liverpool's second. 6.

Gabriel: At fault for the first goal, but in fairness Nunez being an offside position may have affected things. Stretched for balls he couldn't reach as he tried to do much in the first half, but calmed in the second half and was crucial in the build up to the the second with his feint. 6.

Takehiro Tomiyasu: Struggled to stop Liverpool consistently getting in on their right in the first half. His two-footedness was useful for press evasion in the build up though. 6.

Thomas Partey: Did well to nab balls off Liverpool midfielders and attackers in the first half but had no one to pass to in front of him. Showed composure against the press and his experience was vital in the dying stages. 7.

Granit Xhaka: Got forward well and caused problems down the Liverpool right with his running. Stuck up for his teammates when Liverpool tried to bully Arsenal. 7.

Martin Odegaard: A superb assist for Gabriel Martinelli's goal in the first half, but missed two big chances in the second. Will be forgiven for how he led the team with his front-footedness. 8.

Bukayo Saka: Remained calm in the highest of pressure moments to dispatch the penalty. Caused Liverpool real problems on the counter and forced Tsimikas back with his running in behind. 9.

Gabriel Jesus: Won the penalty and showed great leadership on a day when Arsenal needed cool heads. Took a battering for his team but it was worth it. 8.

Gabriel Martinelli: An absolutely outstanding display from the Brazilian. Scored early and ran Alexander-Arnold and then Joe Gomez absolutely ragged. Arsenal's biggest and most effective threat on the counter. A performance that truly announced him as one of the best players not just at Arsenal, but in the Premier League. 9.
