Arsenal player ratings vs Brighton as Martin Odegaard sublime and Oleksandr Zinchenko superb

Aaron Ramsdale: A touch flappy from a couple of corners but made a sublime save to keep the scores at 1-0. His distribution was good too. Couldn't do much to stop the first goal but might have been quicker off his line for the second. 6.

Ben White: Did well on his return to the south coast. Not always the most eye-catching but so effective in what he does. A fundamental part of this Arsenal side. 7.

William Saliba: Reads the game well and was composed for the most part but arguably too cool as he lost the flight of the ball for Brighton's second. Another mistake but he's been so good this season he gets a pass. 6.

Gabriel: Bizarrely booked for timewasting in the first half but dealt with the injustice well. Was superb in defending. So switched on and snapped at the Brighton attackers like a pitbull each time they got near the Arsenal box. Unlucky not to score. 7.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: A simply outstanding performance. Helped Arsenal control possession throughout and was even more instrumental in keeping them high up the pitch. Was noticeable how the stranglehold dropped after he went off. 9.

Thomas Partey: Sublime at helping Arsenal win the ball back high up the pitch and was excellent in defensive cover. Some smart distribution and stood up well to some harsh treatment from the Brighton midfield. 8.

Granit Xhaka: Not as offensively influential as he has been but with how early went up he didn't necessarily need to be. Steady in the middle. 7.

Martin Odegaard: There is a genuine argument that Martin Odegaard is the best player in the Premier League right now. So composed in the final third where his decision making has gone to another level since the World Cup. The pass for Martinelli's goal was simply sublime. A well-taken goal to boot as well. 9.

Bukayo Saka: Another goal for the England international who is developing a knack of popping up in the right place at the right time. A consistent goal threat. 8.

Eddie Nketiah: A really good all round performance from Nketiah who showed link up play that Gabriel Jesus would be proud of. A customary goal as well. 9.

Gabriel Martinelli: Probably should have squared his goal but won't mind after that finish. Was a huge threat to Brighton in build up in the first half and then on the counter in the second. Outstanding. 9.

Substitutes -

Takehiro Tomiyasu: Not as effective as White after coming on. Out of position for the first Brighton goal. Some decent one-vs-one defending on occasion though. 6.

Kieran Tierney: Arsenal lost control of the game after he came on. Not his fault but certainly coincidental. Did well defensively against Sarmiento who's a tricky customer, but just so different from Zinchenko. 6.

Mohamed Elneny: Brought on to lock the game down and didn't quite do it to the level that he might have wanted. Solid enough though. 6.

Rob Holding: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
