Arsenal player ratings vs Bournemouth: Reiss Nelson the unlikely hero with Martin Odegaard everywhere

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points after a dramatic win over Bournemouth.

The Gunners were trailing with just over 30 minutes to go and it felt like the momentum in the title race was shifting to Manchester City after their 2-0 win over Newcastle earlier on Saturday.

Arsenal, however, hit back and scored three goals in the final 28 minutes. First, Thomas Partey scored and then Ben White levelled the game.

Reiss Nelson then made himself a hero as he smashed the ball home from a corner with basically the last kick of the game.

Aaron Ramsdale 7

He conceded two goals but it could easily have been worse for Arsenal if it were not for Ramsdale. Made a big save in either half.

Takehiro Tomiyasu 4

Taken off at the break for Ben White after a fairly lacklustre first-half performance. Didn’t create enough on the overlap when given the chance to get beyond Saka.

William Saliba 6

The better of Arsenal’s two centre-backs but that is not saying a lot. Almost gifted Bournemouth a goal with a loose pass in the first-half.

Gabriel 5

At fault for the first goal as the ball went under his foot and Billing was able to score. The whole defence looked shaky all game.

Oleksandr Zinchenko 6

Like a lot of the Arsenal defence he was just a little off it today. Saw plenty of the ball as you’d expect, but couldn’t create much with it.

Martin Odegaard 7

Struggled in the first-half as Bournemouth sat deep and defended well. Was like a man possessed in the second-half, though, both in attack and defence as he covered so much ground.

Thomas Partey 6

Was at fault for Bournemouth’s second goal as he lost his man from a corner. Made amends by getting on the scoresheet just moments later.

Fabio Vieira 5

Handed a rare start in place of Granit Xhaka but didn’t make the most of his opportunity. The odd nice run and moment, but lacked end product.

Bukayo Saka 6

Never stopped going at his man all game but couldn’t make the decisive pass or goal, like he so often does. Unlikely to not get on the scoresheet.

Leandro Trossard 5

Forced to come off midway through the first-half due to injury. Arsenal will hope it is nothing serious given they already have Eddie Nketiah out injured.

Gabriel Martinelli 5

Typically full of running. Spent most of the game playing as a No9 after Trossard went off injured. Culpable for missing a few good chances.

Substitutions

Emile Smith Rowe (Trossard 22’) 6

Looks to still be short of match fitness and the plan wouldn’t have been to bring him on this early. Got an assist but taken off for Nelson with just over 20 minutes to go.

Ben White (Tomiyasu 45’) 7

On at half-time and showed why he is the No1 right-back. Levelled the game by scoring his first goal for Arsenal.

Reiss Nelson (Smith Rowe 69’) 8 | Star player

The unlikeliest of heroes. Off the bench to setup a goal and score the winner with basically the last kick of the game.

Granit Xhaka (Vieira 83’) N/A
