Arsenal player has request approved amid $44m transfer response

Folarin Balogun will be available for selection for the USMNT squad for the upcoming international break, FIFA have confirmed.

The Arsenal loanee is eligible for the United States - as well as England and Nigeria - after being born in New York. His international allegiance has been a highly-contested one this season after his superb 2022/23 campaign.

Balogun has scored 20 goals in 36 games for French side Stade Reims, his best return to date. His future at club level is expected to dominate the summer transfer window, with the Gunners reportedly demanding £35million for his services which potential suitors RB Leipzig are not keen to part with.

His international future could well be settled in the coming weeks following FIFA’s decision. The governing body have today (Tuesday) confirmed that they have approved the U.S Soccer Federation’s request to change the striker’s national eligibility from England.

FIFA rules permit players to change their eligibility before playing a competitive game at senior level. Balogun's move comes five weeks before England under-21s participate in the Under-21 European Championship.

The United States have five fixtures scheduled throughout June and July. They will face Mexico in the Nations League semi-final on June 15 and will face either Panama or Canada in the final or third place play-off.

They will also kickstart their Gold Cup campaign against Jamaica, Nicaragua and an unconfirmed opponent.
