Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke makes massive claim as $264m mega deal works out

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke toasted the impact of Nikola Jokic after the Denver Nuggets beat the Miami Heat on Saturday.

Jokic scored 23 points en route to a 108-95 win in South Florida that puts the Nuggets en course to win their first NBA championship. The Nuggets are now leading the best-of-seven series 3-1 ahead of Tuesday's return to the Kaseya Center.

Jokic is proving to be worth every cent of the blockbuster $264 million contract he signed with the Nuggets last year, the largest in history at the time it was finalised in July. He is tied to the Nuggets for another five years and Kroenke, who owns the team along with the Gunners through his Kroenke Sports & Entertainment company, spoke in glowing terms about the 28 year-old center.

"I mean, to me he's been the most amazing thing ever," Kroenke told the Spanish-language sports publication Marca. "I've watched a lot of basketball, I played basketball, I love the game and my son played at a high level.

"I mean, Nikola is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in basketball." Kroenke stands on the brink of success, again, as a sports team owner having watched the Los Angeles Rams win the NFL's Super Bowl and Colorado Avalanche be victorious in the NHL's Stanley Cup finals.

The Gunners are back in the Champions League and pushed Manchester City to the limit in their bid to win the Premier League title before falling short. With the Nuggets, Kroenke is about to win an NBA championships in the team's maiden appearance in a finals.

"The city is unbelievable," he said. "I mean, it's super exciting and I think, I mean, it's been told, I've heard that grown men were crying when we went in the finals, they've never been in the finals before so it was pretty exciting."
