Arsenal opening Declan Rice bid revealed as West Ham reject approach amid Man City interest

Arsenal have had an opening bid for Declan Rice rejected with a value understood by football.london to be £80million guaranteed with at least £10million in add-ons, with Manchester City considering a potential move. West Ham are hoping to secure a deal for Rice this summer which extends beyond the triple-million-pound figure.

The offer from Arsenal is very typical of a negotiation process as the club looks to come to an agreement on the price. West Ham are hoping to receive as much of the agreed price upfront whereas Arsenal hope to install significant add-ons to reduce the potential guaranteed cost.

Champions League and Premier League victories are said to be a potential add-ons which creates a win-win scenario for Arsenal. The additional fee paid to West Ham with the achievement of these add-ons would be paid for through the financial gain of those achievements themselves.

From a West Ham perspective, they would need to weigh up whether these are realistic achievements for Arsenal. In the Gunners negotiations for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk, the club chief Sergei Palkin told The Athletic that the bonuses Chelsea were offering they felt were more “achievable and realistic.”

Arsenal will hope to avoid a repeat of missing out on a key target but have other interests in the window such as Kai Havertz and Moises Caicedo. Negotiations are continuing with West Ham to reach an agreement over a fee with Rice understood to prefer a move to north London.

Manchester City’s interest in Rice is also understood to be a factor in West Ham United’s delayed approach to discussions. It is within the east London side’s motive to be patient and assess potential future bids by rivalling clubs.
