Arsenal 'offered' chance to sign £62m winger as Raphinha transfer alternative

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar, according to L’Equipe.

Both the Gunners and fellow Premier League side Everton are said to have turned down the chance to sign Lemar in recent times, with the La Liga giants growing frustrated with the French international's inconsistency. The north London outfit had previously tried to sign the Frenchman back in the summer of 2017 but a move failed to materialise and he eventually joined Atletico a year later for a fee in the region of £62million instead.

Lemar was one of Monaco's key players during their 2016/17 Ligue 1-winning campaign, although he has failed to live up to his potential in Spain, scoring just nine times in 142 outings for Diego Simeone's men. Despite their decision to turn down the chance to sign the 27-year-old, Arsenal are indeed looking to sign a winger this summer.

The Gunners had been keen on Brazilian star Raphinha, although he ended up choosing to sign for Catalan giants Barcelona instead. Still, technical director Edu didn't miss out on his priority signing for centre-forward, with fellow Brazilian Gabriel Jesus joining from Manchester City for £45million earlier this month.

American goalkeeper Matt Turner, young winger Marquinhos and highly-rated Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira have also arrived at the Emirates Stadium this summer whilst Jesus' former teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to be officially unveiled as the club's fifth signing of the window in the coming days.
