Arsenal offered chance to sign £44m Dutch wonderkid as Dein link gives key transfer advantage

Arsenal will be offered the chance to sign PSV Eindhoven starlet Xavi Simons during the summer transfer window, as per the Mirror.

Simons has enjoyed a breakout season, netting 16 goals and providing a further eight assists in 32 Eredivisie fixtures - numbers that read even more impressive when you consider that he is still just 20 years old. The Dutch international, who is valued at €50 million (£44 million) by CIES Football Observatory, joined PSV from French giants Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

It is claimed that PSG inserted a clause in the youngster's contract that means they can buy him back for around £10 million, although the Ligue 1 outfit haven't indicated that they will do so as of yet. Considering the player turned down a contract extension at the Parc des Princes last year, it is unclear whether or not he would wish to return to the French capital if they did make a move at the end of the current campaign.

This is said to have opened the door for a potential move to the Gunners, who have a relationship with Simons' new agent Darren Dein, the son of David Dein, who was vice-chairman of Arsenal for 24 years. That relationship may give them an advantage in any potential deal for Simons, according to Dutch transfer guru Aad de Mos.

Speaking about the talented youngster to Dutch publication Eindhovens Dagblad via Voetbal Zone, he said: “His change of manager indicates that he is searching.

"Maybe he is thinking about Arsenal. His new agents have a lot of contacts there. I hope Earnest Stewart (PSV’s technical director) can manage to keep Simons here in Eindhoven.

“That should be priority number one for PSV and so steps need to be taken quickly.”
