Arsenal news: Zinchenko's Anfield tears explained as Carragher backtracks on keeper Ramsdale

It was billed as a pivotal clash in the Premier League title race - and it didn't disappoint.

Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday represented one of the most pulsating Premier League games of the 2022/23 season, and the fallout from it shows little sign of simmering. Andy Robertson's clash with assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis provided a major talking point, with the official now suspended pending an investigation.

But of more pressing concern for Mikel Arteta would have been his side surrendering a 2-0 lead, meaning they can ill-afford a further slip when they go to West Ham this Sunday. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest headlines on the league leaders following another chaotic weekend.

Zinchenko's anguish explained

Whilst images of Robertson inadvertently being elbowed in the head dominated the reports, the sight of Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko in tears of despair after being subbed off was equally telling. The Ukrainian was culpable for Robert Firmino's late leveller, allowing Trent Alexander Arnold to ghost past him and provide the telling cross.

Zinchenko, who was later savaged by pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, was promptly subbed and appeared an emotional wreck as he watched the final moments. According to talkSPORT, the anguish stemmed from his disappointment at letting his side down.

Carragher admits he's 'never been more wrong' as Ramsdale shines

As per usual, Jamie Carragher wasn't shy about weighing in on a variety of matters in the Sky Sports studio - or on Twitter - in the aftermath of the draw. But two brilliant late saves by Aaron Ramsdale, who denied Mo Salah and then Ibrahima Konate, had the former defender doing a total u-turn.

Having previously been critical of the decision to sign the keeper from Sheffield United for £18.5 million, the ex-defender admitted: "I don't think I've ever been more wrong, or certainly this season proven wrong, [than] by Aaron Ramsdale. When Arsenal bought him I was scratching my head. I'll be honest, I could not believe it when they bought him."

It's a signing that now looks inspired. And if Arsenal do end up a solitary point ahead of Man City when all is said and done, the two aforementioned saves are likely to go down in folklore.

Arsenal legend defends 'idiotic' Xhaka

Speaking of Carragher, he also laid into the 'idiotic' Granit Xhaka after he sparked an on-field clash with Alexander Arnold. Arsenal were seemingly in control at 2-0 at the time, but the brief fracas only served to rile up the Anfield crowd - and the noise levels were soon through the roof as hosts fought back.

But speaking on Match of the Day 2, Ian Wright defended the midfielder, claiming he wasn't responsible for ramping up the atmosphere: "It doesn’t take much to get that crowd going," he said.

"Even if Granit Xhaka went in there and slapped someone it’s not going to get them going any more than they’re going to get going. The fact is that he’s been brilliant for us this season. I think the narrative is that people are trying to point at someone."
