Arsenal news: William Saliba agent drops contract hint as Reiss Nelson scores injury-time winner

Here is your morning Arsenal digest on Sunday, March 5.

Saliba contract hint

William Saliba's agent, Niang Djibril, has teased that a contract extension could closer than first thought after snapping a picture outside the Emirates Stadium. The 21-year-old faces an increasingly uncertain future at Arsenal with his deal set to expire at the end of next season.

With Paris-Saint Germain keeping tabs on Saliba's development, football.london understands that talks are progressing well over an extension. Mikel Arteta is eager to tie the France international down to a long-term contract as the defender continues to prove integral in the Gunners' title challenge.

Saliba will be free to open pre-contract negotiations in January with clubs outside of the Premier League, if by then he and Arsenal have not yet reached an agreement over a new deal. So, with the Gunners in a race against time, Djibril's post of him at the Emirates Stadium has sent supporters into a frenzy on social media.

Xhaka responds to Ozil question

Granit Xhaka has revealed how Arsenal have evolved under Mikel Arteta as the Gunners look to defend their place at the top of the Premier League. Speaking to Sky Sports, the 30-year-old midfielder lifted the lid on how the Spaniard has always had the support of the club.

When quizzed on Ozil and Aubameyang, he replied: "You say these two players, they were big names in this football club. We respect them a lot but of course to do these things [move them on] you need the support of the club. I think Mikel had the support from the club to do it.

"You have different types of character today, different types of players as well, now of course, you can say it was a good decision from Mikel to do that. I would say that my relationship with both players was very good, I never had any problems with any players, this was a decision by Mikel and the club."

Arsenal win

Arsenal secured a vital 3-2 victory in injury time during their Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Cherries took the lead in north London in the opening ten seconds through Phillip Billing, who found the back of the net with the second-fastest goal in Premier League history. Marcos Senesi then doubled his side's lead in the 57th minute before the Gunners fought back.

Thomas Partey scored from close range before Ben White levelled things up with 20 minutes to go. Substitute Reiss Nelson netted the winner for the hosts, firing an incredible strike past Bournemouth shot-stopper Neto in the 97th minute to secure all three points for Arteta's men.
