Arsenal news: Sead Kolasinac completes free transfer to Marseille after mutual contract termination

Arsenal have announced the departure of Sead Kolasinac after mutually terminating the defender’s contract.

The Bosnian has completed a free transfer to Marseille after being allowed to leave the Gunners, after almost five years in North London.

A statement on Tuesday evening confirmed the move, making Kolasinac the third first-team player to depart Arsenal this month. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Folarin Balogun have also left on loan with Pablo Mari expected to follow suit and join Udinese.

Signing on a free from Bundesliga side Schalke, Kolasinac scored on his debut to help the Gunners lift the 2017 Community Shield before claiming the Player of the Month award for that August.

However, he fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta and was a late substitute in the 2020 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea. Sent back to Schalke on loan later that year, he returned in the summer but once again was used sparingly.

The 28-year-old featured just five times this season with his last appearance a brief cameo off the bench in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

A Gunners statement read: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Sead for his contribution to the club since he joined us in 2017 and wish him all the best for his future.”

Marseille have confirmed his arrival on a deal to June 2023.
