Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta “scared” first team stars as Gabriel Jesus given home truths

Arsenal return their primary focus to the Premier League on Sunday as they prepare for a huge London derby with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

A certain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is due an awkward reunion with his former side as he prepares to line up for Chelsea this weekend, but it was the manner of his exit which led to his teammates being “scared” of Mikel Arteta, who himself is now wary of his former player. Elsewhere, Gabriel Jesus has been handed some home truths over his goal scoring form.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta “scared” Arsenal players

Arsenal players were left “scared” of Arteta after the Spaiard stripped Aubameyang of his captaincy last season and shipped him out the club after a number of disciplinary warnings in north London.

The stamp of authority left a lasting impression on first team stars as they were shown how things would be dealt with if they dared to step out of line, with current midfielder Mohamed Elneny revealing the impact it had on the team.

He said: “We agree with what Mikel decided because he is our boss and we just have to agree what his vision is for us. I think it unified us because now everyone was scared! Everyone is scared with their position because this happened to Aubameyang.”

Arteta wary of Aubameyang reunion

This weekend will represent the first time that Arteta and Aubameyang will come face-to-face after their major falling out at Arsenal last season, as Chelsea prepare to welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge.

The Gabon international left for Barcelona in January but after a short stint in Catalonia, moved back to the Premier League with Chelsea on deadline day and is now preparing to line up against his former manager on Sunday.

But despite their differences, Arteta knows the quality that Aubameyang possesses and knows he will be out for revenge in west London. With this in mind, the Spaniard has warned his players that the 33-year-old could be "very dangerous" in Sunday afternoon's fixture.

Gabriel Jesus given home truths

Arsenal forward Jesus has been warned over his barren run in front of goal after being told that he “needs to start scoring goals”.

The Brazilian has five goals and six assists from 12 starts in the Premier League this season, and although that record is by no means a bad one, he hasn’t found the back of the net since the north London derby victory over Tottenham on October 1.

Speaking of the former Man City striker, Arsenal legend Martin Keown told BT Sport: "He thinks about the team, but he does need to start scoring goals. However, Arsenal are winning at the moment and perhaps he gets that goal on the weekend."
