Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta receives transfer boost as Bukayo Saka makes his feelings clear

The Premier League resumes in just a matter of days - and Arsenal are just 10 games away from ending their agonising 19-year title drought.

The Gunners are currently eight points clear at the summit ahead of Manchester City, albeit having playing one game more than the reigning champions. And with a clash against struggling Leeds on the horizon this weekend, Mikel Arteta's side have an opportunity to lay down a marker ahead of the title run-in.

Elsewhere, Bukayo Saka is on the verge of committing his future to the club until the summer of 2028 after agreeing a new contract in principle, while transfer plans are starting to take shape. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from the Emirates...

Saka makes feelings clear

Bukayo Saka is set to snub interest from Manchester City in order to commit his long-term future to Arsenal after agreeing a deal in principle worth an estimated £15million-a-year.

The deal, which is expected to be made official soon, comes after months of negotiations between the Arsenal hierarchy and the Hale End graduate, who has just 15 months remaining on his current contract.

After evolving into one of Europe's finest players under Mikel Arteta, Saka has had plenty of high-profile suitors keeping an eye on him, including Manchester City. But Saka has privately indicated all along that he was only interested in staying at Arsenal due to the impressive work Arteta has overseen.

Arsenal are currently in 'pole position' to fend off interest from Juventus in the race for Atalanta hotshot Rasmus Hojlund.

The 20-year-old striking prodigy had already been attracting interest from the Gunners and Real Madrid, but his list of admirers is expecting to grow in the wake of his remarkable five-goal haul for Denmark across their two Euro 2024 qualifiers this week.

Hojlund admitted back in January that he was a "huge" Manchester United fan, which could give them the edge in a transfer race. However, he also refused to rule out interest from other top clubs if the opportunity to move presented itself in the future.

Saka faces up to Arsenal curse

Arsenal will be hoping that Bukayo Saka will avoid going off the boil like several other players who have landed bumper paydays when he comes the club's highest earner.

Saka is set to pocket £300,000-a-week once he signs his new Arsenal deal, meaning he will eclipse Gabriel Jesus, who reportedly became the club's highest earner back in the summer.

The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil both flopped after penning mega-money contracts - but Saka has the scope to bring the unfortunate curse to an end.
