Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta eyes Marcel Sabitzer transfer as Ian Wright makes Ronaldo claim

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Monday, April 18.

Arsenal eye Bayern Munich's Marcel Sabitzer

Arsenal have reportedly been handed a significant boost in signing Bayern Munich's Marcel Sabitzer for a cut-price deal.

The Austrian international has been used sparingly by manager Julian Nagelsmann since arriving, making just six Bundesliga starts this season. The Gunners will be on the market to bolster their squad in the upcoming window and signing central midfielders of significant talent and versatility is an absolute must for Mikel Arteta.

The likes of Ruben Neves have been linked with a move to the Emirates but a player like Sabitzer would be available for significantly less money whilst arguably offering similar levels of quality.

Ian Wright's Ronaldo claim

Ian Wright has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is "exactly what Arsenal need" after the Manchester United forward’s hat-trick secured all three points yesterday in the Red Devils' 3-2 win over Norwich. The win moves Ralf Ragnick's men up to fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham after they lost at home to Brighton.

Meanwhile, Arsenal suffered their third successive Premier League defeat at Southampton, with Jan Bednarek scoring the only goal of the game in the 44th minute. The north Londoners have found goals hard to come by of late and Wright argues that a player of Ronaldo's quality was needed in the summer.

Saliba's fresh admission on his future

William Saliba has opened up on his future, stating that he wouldn't be surprised if he was to stay in France next season, sparking concern over his long term status at Arsenal.

The French international is currently having an excellent spell on loan at Marseille under the stewardship of Jorge Sampaoli, where he has been operating in his preferred position at right centre back and speaking in a recent interview, the former Saint-Étienne prospect has revealed that he isn't ruling out the possibility of staying with the French club for next season.

"There is always a chance," he said in an interview after being asked whether he will stay at Marseille next season. "I do not hide that I am very happy in Marseille.

"I have developed, I have passed a milestone. If I make it into France’s squad it’s thanks to Marseille, because there is a lot of visibility. They are a very big club with a lot of pressure, but when you’re good there are a lot of good things that happen to you."
