Arsenal news: Martin Odegaard responds to horror challenge from Manchester City’s Rodri

Martin Odegaard lamented the decision not to award Norway a penalty during their Euro 2024 qualifier loss to Spain on Saturday night.

The Arsenal captain was in action as his country lost 3-0 inside Malaga’s La Rosaleda, with former Newcastle forward Joselu bagging a brace on his international debut.

Odegaard was left writhing in pain following a fearsome tackle from Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

During the early stages of the game, the 24-year-old saw a shot from just inside the box blocked before Rodri made contact and the sight of a City player leaving an Arsenal star in pain riled Gunners fans online.

The two clubs are competing for the Premier League title and Odegaard has arguably been the standout player across the entirety of the division.

Odegaard believes he should have been awarded a penalty for the incident but stopped short of criticising the referee for fear of being handed further punishment.

“I’m pretty sure I should have had a penalty. He’s coming with his studs right on my ankle,” he told TV 2 Sport.

“But I’m sure I’ll get punished [if I say anymore]. I don’t bother saying anything else about the referee. It’s better not to say anything.”
