Arsenal news: Jorginho opens up on Chelsea exit as Patrick Vieira makes title prediction

Arsenal's dramatic win over Aston Villa has led to renewed confidence at the Emirates Stadium over their hopes of winning the title.

Key to that late, late victory was Jorginho, whose shot was unwittingly diverted into his own net by Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez. Now, the midfielder has explained what convinced him to make the move to the Gunners from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

That news comes as Gunners icon Ray Parlour opened up on a "nightmare" game he had during his time at the club and Patrick Vieira revealed his prediction for the final months of the title race. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Arsenal news.

Jorginho opens up on Arsenal move

Jorginho was arguably the star signing of Arsenal's transfer window, with the Italian adding much-needed experience and depth to the Gunners' squad. Now, he has opened up on what convinced him to swap Chelsea for the title challengers.

"It’s [Mikel Arteta] one of the reasons, surely. He called me and it was all very quick, we made the deal in less than 48 hours. I had spoken to Chelsea and I knew I was no longer part of their plans. I wanted to progress in my career and the Arsenal project suits me," he told DAZN.

“It’s a young team that plays good football and fits my characteristics. I considered every scenario and made the decision. Sometimes you must accept when you are out of a project and that things come to an end.”

Parlour admits Gunners' "nightmare"

Ray Parlour has admitted one game from his time at Arsenal still gives him nightmares (talkSPORT)

Gunners icon Ray Parlour has admitted he can't bring himself to rewatch Arsenal's infamous defeat to Manchester United in the 1999 FA Cup semi-finals. United had gone down to 10 men, but still won after Ryan Giggs raced away to score, with Parlour admitting he still has nightmares about that game.

“If there’s one game that sticks out in my mind, it’s the ‘99 FA Cup semi-final replay against United when obviously Ryan Giggs scored one of the all-time classic goals of the FA Cup and took his shirt off. It was a mistake I think from Patrick [Vieira] in midfield," he told talkSPORT.

“A square pass and he was away at the defence and done really well to finish it off but that was a nightmare because they had ten men as well, Man Utd, we had one extra player. What a season that was for United because they went on obviously to win the treble."

Vieira makes title prediction

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira believes Mikel Arteta's men face a race to the finish to win the Premier League title. The Gunners are in control of the title race, but Vieira believes it will go down to the final day.

“I think the Premier League title is Arsenal’s to lose, to be honest with you. I think Arsenal did really well against Aston Villa on Saturday, to bounce back with that 4-2 win at Villa Park," Vieira told William Hill.

"They are just in a really good place at the moment, with a lot of confidence. But I still believe Manchester City will chase Arsenal until the very last day of the Premier League season. But I think it’s Arsenal’s title to lose.”
