Arsenal news: Granit Xhaka responds to criticism after Trent Alexander-Arnold clash

Granit Xhaka has rubbished suggestions he played a role in Arsenal slipping up against Liverpool.

For much of the first-half, Mikel Arteta’s side dominated proceedings at Anfield and race into a two-goal lead.

A flashpoint between Xhaka and Trent Alexander-Arnold, however, appeared to rile the home support and Mohamed Salah scored only minutes after to half the deficit.

The Swiss international was involved in an altercation with the Liverpool defender off the ball, raising the noise levels on Merseyside after a nightmae start for the home side.

Roberto Firmino later scored deep into the second half to deny Arsenal what would have been a huge three points.

Sunday’s draw at West Ham has allowed Manchester City to gain valuable ground on the Gunners and the two teams will meet in a mouth-watering clash at the Etihad Stadium later this month.

Of his role at Anfield, Xhaka said: “Listen, we don’t really care about who is waking up the fans or not.

“This is not our job. They are supporters for West Ham or Liverpool.

“If they support the team or not, it’s not our problem. But we allowed them back to 2-1 too easily. The 2-2 is too easy. And like this, we didn’t win the last two games.”
