Arsenal news: Final Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang payment made amid first Barcelona problem

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sealed his last-minute transfer deadline day switch to Barcelona after Arsenal agreed to release the forward – but he's already facing his first problem at his new club.

The former Arsenal captain had been ostracised at the Emirates Stadium following a disciplinary breach in December which left him training alone and left out of Mikel Arteta's first-teamsquad.

In order to push through his deadline day move, though, the Gunners had to pay a huge fee to cancel his contract as details of the move and Aubameyang's final hours as an Arsenal player have now come to light.

It comes as Arsenal legend Ian Wright has issued an emphatic verdict on the whole affair.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Arsenal headlines.

Wright's sadness

Gunners icon Ian Wright say's he's "sad" to see ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go.

One of the club's most legendary goalscorers, Wright says he's "very sad on a personal level because I think he’s made for us", about the Gabon international.

Aubameyang scored 92 goals in 163 games for the Gunners, with Wright obviously having an appreciation for his fellow forward's knack of finding the net.

And Wright has now issued his verdict on the striker's Arsenal exit, and what he thinks of Mikel Arteta's decision to let him go.

Arsenal had to agree to release the forward in order for him to finalise his switch to the Camp Nou and get his substantial £350k weekly wages off their books.

He's now signed an 18-month deal at Barcelona following his release at Arsenal, saving Arsenal a whopping £25million on the contract he had at the Emirates which was also due to expire at the end of next season.

And Arsenal have had to hand part of that amount to the forward in order to finalise his departure.

Aubameyang hits first Barca problem

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is facing a registration issue which could see him left out of the club's Europa League squad.

Barcelona manager Xavi had a clear idea of what he wanted from the January transfer window as he brought in an almost entirely new front line.

Ferran Torres arrived from Manchester City in a £46million deal, while Adama Traore also arrived on loan from Wolves until the end of the season with both players set to offer their new team more width on the flanks.

Dani Alves also arrived to provide more cover at right-back, before Aubameyang arrived on transfer deadline day.

But one of the players will be forced to sit out of the rest of this season's Europa League.
