Arsenal news: £42m transfer targeted as Martin Keown makes shocking Harry Kane claim

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Thursday, May 12.

Pepe pursuit

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal are looking to bolster their options in the wide positions and could target Porto starlet Pepe. The Gunners already have one Pepe, in the form of Nicolas, in their ranks but the Ivorian has struggled for game time this term and has since been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian Pepe has stepped up since Luis Diaz left for Liverpool in the January transfer window, helping his side win the title. However, his contract reportedly contains a £43million release clause.

Keown claim

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has claimed that he wouldn't swap Eddie Nketiah for Tottenham's Harry Kane. When asked which Spurs player he would have at the Emirates Stadium, Keown told the Daily Mail: "It would be easy for me to name Harry Kane.

“But as an Arsenal man, I don’t want to take anything away from my team. This close to the battle, I’m focusing on my club, so there’s not a single Tottenham player I’d take.

"Not Kane, not Son Heung-min. Not any of them.

"I wouldn’t want to say anything to hamper the confidence of someone like Eddie Nketiah, who’s been a revelation over the last four wins." He added: "I believe this will finish 2-1 to Arsenal, with the confident Nketiah bagging the winner."

“There are six more clubs interested in Gabriel - he’s focused on final games with Man City, we’ll see."
