The agreement to see Willian leave Arsenal by mutual consent was both a fortuitous instance and a moment which marked the end of a dynamic between the Gunners and Chelsea. Since Willian’s exit, Arsenal have not wandered back into the Chelsea castaways market and instead watched as roles reversed.
After leaving Arsenal for Barcelona, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang swiftly returned to the Premier League with Chelsea. The former Gabon international has however struggled to recapture the form that he showed in La Liga and featured disappointingly when the Gunners came to Stamford Bridge to dominate and grab all three points for the third season running.
Aubameyang had just eight touches in the game compared to Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus’ 60-plus. The Gunners completely dominated the game and it represented somewhat of a shift of power in London back into Arsenal’s possession.

Somewhat symbolic seeing an ex-Arsenal striker past his prime leading the Chelsea line. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s squad has been built from rising stars and serial champions still ahead of their prime years.
Yet links have now emerged with Christian Pulisic being touted with a move to Arsenal. With just 18 months remaining on his Chelsea deal, it is expected he could move on with the Blues cashing in soon.
Arsenal are on the lookout for reinforcement to their forward line. Several forwards have been linked and football.london understands Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk is of long term interest to the club.
Pulisic would offer the Premier League experience that could see a more immediate impact that is so valuable from a winter signing. However, there remains the dynamic of taking a player from a side who should be viewed somewhat in the rear-view mirror of Arsenal as they aim to progress.
The signing of Mudryk represents an investment in someone who could become something truly special. It also follows the methodology of the recruitment of the club, although the investment might be significantly higher.
Arsenal need to avoid falling into another transfer trap from Chelsea and Pulisic has the feeling of one. Whilst money is available in January, the Gunners cannot afford to judge their moves inaccurately as they push toward a potential title challenge.
