Arsenal missed out on 'next Cristiano Ronaldo' as Juventus chief makes surprising admission

Juventus' vice-chairman Pavel Nedved has admitted that he's been surprised by how good Dusan Vlahovic has been since signing for the Old Lady, adding that comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo are justified thus far.

Vlahovic was Arsenal's top January transfer target but the Serbian ended up choosing a move to Juventus from Fiorentina.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended up leaving the club, which ultimately left the Gunners with just two natural centre-forwards in Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah - both of whom could leave in the summer on a free transfer when their contracts expire.

Missing out on Vlahovic was a blow and perhaps even more so now after Nedved admitted he was surprised by how good he's been since signing.

“I’ll be honest, Vlahovic surprised me too. There are comparisons to some of the tops like Cristiano Ronaldo," he said, as cited by the Mirror.

“I knew he was a very good player, but he was born in 2000 and if he continues with this mentality, he can really do great things.

“I am convinced the future belongs to him. He is really intelligent, knows how to prepare for games, is very humble and that is so important for a player to become a champion. He really is on the right track.

“It is really nice when these young players who are hungry and humble come to ask you for advice. You feel useful.”

Despite missing out on Vlahovic, Arsenal have had a good run of results since the end of the January transfer window, winning all three of their Premier League games in February.

They are now in with a great chance of securing Champions League qualification by finishing fourth and will be able to reassess the striker situation in a few months time if they have secured a return to Europe's leading club competition for next season by then.
