Arsenal: Mikel Arteta admits injury uncertainty ahead of Leeds clash

Mikel Arteta has called for patience over Oleksandr Zinchenko’s calf injury.

The Ukrainian international has missed Arsenal’s last three games across all competitions after picking up the problem during the north London derby victory over Tottenham earlier this month.

While the 25-year-old’s move from Manchester City has so far proven a success as Arteta’s side lead the champions at the top of the Premier League, a number of injury issues have proven frustrating.

Zinchenko has so far missed six games and is a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Leeds after sitting out Thursday’s Europa League win away at Bodo/Glimt.

“I think so. With Alex, I don’t know, he has not been on the pitch yet. So we have to be a little bit calm,” said Arteta when asked on whether or not Zinchenko was likely to miss the game.

Gabriel Jesus, meanwhile, needed lengthy treatment during last week’s win over Liverpool after the Brazilian was caught by an elbow and did not play any part in midweek as a precaution.

Of Jesus’ fitness, Arteta said: “I don’t know obviously he has some discomfort after the game against Liverpool and that’s why we decided not to bring him in [to Norway], so let’s see how he is tomorrow and Saturday.”
