Arsenal, Man Utd, Tottenham and West Ham's remaining fixtures compared in top four race

The latest serving of Premier League action saw the race for a top-four finish and subsequent Champions League qualification take yet more twists and turns.

Heading into the weekend, Arsenal were in the driving seat for fourth, however their surprise home defeat to Brighton, days after they were stuffed 3-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, saw their European aspirations thrown into disarray. And it wasn't just at the Emirates where an upset would take place.

Both Manchester United and West Ham failed to capitalise on the Gunners' misfortunes, with the Red Devils suffering a dire 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, while the Hammers endured a 2-0 loss at Brentford. The series of slip-ups allowed Tottenham to take full advantage as a Son Heung-min hat-trick in a 4-0 thumping of Aston Villa saw Spurs emerge as favourites for fourth.

With a handful of games remaining in this dramatic Premier League season, Mirror Football takes a closer look at the remaining fixtures for the quartet of sides fighting it out to finish fourth.

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta 's side have enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in recent months having lost their opening three matches of the season and found themselves rock bottom of the Premier League. However, two defeats on the bounce mean the Gunners are in real danger of erasing all the progress they have made this season.

Arsenal have eight Premier League matches remaining this season - the most of any of the Champions League contenders - but their double bump in the road has seen their advantage wiped out. The Gunners have slipped to fifth following the Brighton beating and find themselves on 54 points, three adrift of Tottenham (with a far inferior goal difference), despite holding a game in hand over their fierce rivals.

Arsenal will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to a shell-shocked Southampton - who shipped six at home to Chelsea on Saturday - next. Among a challenging final run of fixtures, Arteta's side travel to United and face testing trips to Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham.

United's torrid season continued at the weekend as a deflected Anthony Gordon strike saw a relegation-threatened Everton snatch a vital win against the Red Devils at Goodison Park on Saturday. Ralf Rangnick 's side have managed only one win in their last five Premier League outings and face an almighty challenge to clinch a return to Champions League football next season.

United currently sit down in seventh spot on 51 points - six adrift of Tottenham in fourth - with seven matches remaining. The Red Devils will be desperately hoping to emerge victorious when they host bottom-club Norwich next weekend before the prospect of two challenging trips to face Liverpool and Arsenal. The month of May will see Rangnick's side host Brentford before travelling to Brighton in what will likely be two must-win matches.

United round of their Premier League campaign with a tricky trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. There's also the small matter of a rearranged meeting with Chelsea at Old Trafford to be scheduled in before the season draws to a close, too.

Tottenham

Having taken full advantage of the string of slip-ups this weekend, Tottenham have now emerged as the frontrunners to clinch the Premier League's all-important fourth spot, and with it, Champions League football next season. The Villa mauling saw Antonio Conte 's men establish a three-point lead over their North London rivals Arsenal and leapfrog them into fourth on 57 points.

Before the month of April is out, Spurs will host Brighton and Leicester, with an away trip to Brentford sandwiched in between. Tottenham will need to be on top-form heading into the final month of the season as they first head to Anfield to take on title-chasers Liverpool, before the latest instalment of the North London derby against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the rearranged date of May 12.

On paper, Spurs' final two fixtures look relatively straight-forward as they head to Turf Moor to tackle Burnley before hosting Norwich on the final day of the season. However, should the struggling pair still find themselves in with a shot of securing their Premier League safety, Conte's side could face two tough tests.

West Ham

David Moyes ' West Ham have enjoyed a stellar season, but defeat to Brentford on Saturday provided a significant setback. The loss has left the Hammers in sixth on 51 points, however they only have six matches remaining - the fewest of any of the top-four contenders.

Moyes' men head to Lyon for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final this Thursday and should they progress, European commitments could also throw a spanner into the works. The Irons welcome Burnley to the London Stadium when they return to Premier League action next Sunday before rounding off the month of April with a tasty London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham's home clash with Arsenal on May 1 could be crucial in determining the outcome of either side's top-four aspirations. The Hammers finish their Premier League campaign with trips to Brighton and Norwich, with the visit of current league leaders Manchester City sandwiched in between.
