Arsenal make Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer call after worrying Reiss Nelson injury update

Arsenal will not rush any January transfer moves despite Reiss Nelson's injury. The Gunners had been in the market for a forward already next month after missing out on signing Raphinha from Leeds in the summer.

It has been suggested that the likely focus of their attentions will be Mykhaylo Mudryk. Negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk look set to be difficult after the Ukrainian side's director of football Darijo Srna claimed that they would be looking to recoup at least £100million for the winger.

Next month already promises to be a tricky window to find a good deal as clubs look to navigate the unprecedented territory of returning from a mid-season World Cup. It will be crucial in particular for Arsenal who are looking to build on their unexpected push for a Premier League title. That could now have been made even more difficult by an injury to Nelson.

The England under-21 winger was forced off during Arsenal's preseason friendly with Juventus at the Emirates Stadium with what is understood to be a hamstring injury. Speaking ahead of the Gunners' Boxing Day clash with West Ham, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the injury is likely to see Nelson miss a large chunk of time.

"I’m talking weeks not days," Arteta said of Nelson's injury. "He will be out for a few weeks. Let’s see how he reacts in the next few days. He felt something straight away and with sprinters that’s not a good sign."

This creates a real depth issue for Arsenal who are already without Gabriel Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe. Meanwhile Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have only just come back from the World Cup.

There have been some suggestions that the Gunners will now rush to complete their business ahead of crucial January matches against Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester United. However, Arteta has already confirmed that Arsenal's business will not be impacted by their injury situation.

"Let’s see what will happen," Arteta told football.london earlier this month. "We know what we have to do and that doesn’t change the plans."
