Arsenal make major Bukayo Saka contract breakthrough amid Liverpool and Man City transfer links

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has told the club that he wants to stay as the Gunners close in on securing their star player to a new contract, football.london understands.

Saka, who is into the final 18 months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, has enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 campaign, netting nine goals and providing a further eight assists in just 23 Premier League outings so far this term. That kind of form has helped his side become serious title challengers, currently sitting two points clear of second-placed Manchester City despite having played one less league fixture.

Now, the England winger is set to commit to a long-term deal that will last until 2028. The new deal will see him be made one of Arsenal's highest paid players earning in the region of £200,000 per week.

Speaking about both Saka and William Saliba's future with the club earlier this month, Arteta told football.london: "Part of the plan is to extend the contract of our biggest talents at the club and commit them for the future and we are trying to do that. We have started with Gabby (Gabriel Martinelli) which is good news.

"The others will be done whenever we can, but we have to agree on that," Arteta added: "I see everybody really happy and really willing to continue with the club. But obviously, we have to meet everyone's expectations and timing is key on that."
